Friday, September 17th at Summerville

The old hotel at 1627 Gold Run where Tommy and Verushka lived. The Summerville sign that stood in front is also gone.

Across the street from the old hotel, everything looks normal in the camp, but the hills are black in the distance.

The historic cabins at 1488 Gold Run are gone.

Bob and Melissa spent years restoring and refurbishing the historic home at 1448 Gold Run, the first house on the lower end of Summerville. They were almost finished before the fire.

The view looking down Gold Run Road in front of 1448 Gold Run. Black at the top, brown in the middle, green at the bottom.

  1. Thanks for posting the pics. I grew up in the area and watched the fire with horror from CA. My dad build the "round houses" and the old log cabin next to them visible across the valley from above the switchbacks but accessed straight up where the road turns there at the "Trask House" as I recall the now-gone home behind the Summerville sign. From the satellite photo it looks like the round houses and cabin burned completely -- do you know if that's the case?

I have a soft spot in my heart for the whole area, but especially for Salina where we always filled our water jugs at the spring. My very best wishes to all in the community.

  2. The Summerville homes that burned were at 1158, 1448, 1488, 1627, 1629, and 1633 Gold Run Road. It is sad for all residents of our community, past and present. Take care.
